Incorporated in 1973 with the goal of reducing the density of development along the coast Rancho Palos Verdes (RPV) created shoreline parks and improved most of the California Coastal Trail in its jurisdiction.
The geologic uplifting that created this former island also created bluffs with points and coves. The vistas of the shoreline - ocean and Catalina Island are spectacular. There are some sandy beaches but most of the shoreline is cobbled and at low tide - speckled with tidepools. Most trails down to the water require a hearty return hike. [Sunshine]
