San Diego Southern County

The city of San Diego, the sixth largest city in the U.S., takes up a good portion of the County?s southern coastline. This section begins with the colorful and affluent community of La Jolla. Here you will see many beautiful homes and walk past the world famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Eventually you will pass the San Diego airport and arrive downtown, where you can take a ferry across to the Coronado Peninsula and walk the remaining 10 miles on sandy beaches to the border of Mexico. In the last mile, you will encounter your final obstacles: the Tijuana River, as well as the Tijuana River National Estuarine Reserve and Border Field State Park. [Steve Kononenko]
